Views from our postgraduates:

"The Institute offers the ideal environment for postgraduate research, with excellent laboratory facilities and staff (both academic and technical), contained within a thriving postgraduate community. The size and scope of this community highlights the research-driven nature of IGES, which is coupled with first class teaching by experts in a wide range of geographical fields. Opportunities for postgraduate-led teaching and demonstrating are encouraged, which provides invaluable experience and an extra income" – Mike 2nd Year PhD

"One thing I really like about the Institute is the sense of informality. If you need to speak to a member of staff, you don’t need to make an appointment, so much as wander up to their office, or alternatively, track them down in the coffee lounge (often thelatter in fact)." - Paul 1st Year PhD

"I joined the department three years ago after a period of work in the 'real world'. The staff and post-grads here immediately made me feel welcome, helping me with the transition back into academia with their patience and encouragement. Many of the lecturers are young and enthusiastic, so the place has a fresh, forward-thinking feel about it. And Aberystwyth itself is a wonderful place to study - it's quaint and cosmopolitan at the same time. I recommend it to you without hesitation." - Chris, 2nd year PhD

"It’s good to be part of such an active and engaged postgrad community, and you can always find someone happy to thrash out the finer points of your latest chapter in a coffee room with a beautiful sea view. Socially speaking don’t be put off by Aber’s apparent ‘back-of-beyond-ness’; it’s actually the cultural capital of West Wales so there’s usually something interesting going on, and it’s small enough to be super friendly too." - Suzie 3rd Year PhD
