Environmental Earth Science (F640)

Environmental Earth Science [F640] encompasses the overlaps between Geology, Physical Geography and Environmental Science. The degree involves the study of Planet Earth as a unified system, exploring in particular the interactions between the atmosphere, the Earth's surface, and the rocks beneath our feet. It is also about how human activity both impacts upon the environment and is transformed by environmental change. Only by understanding the fundamental physical processes and the linkages between them can we hope to address modern environmental problems.

Environmental Earth Science at Aberystwyth is unique in offering students a detailed insight into the huge variety of subject matter we need to understand our contemporary environment. With this scientific training, Environmental Earth Science graduates are ideally qualified to solve contemporary environmental issues, including problems such as pollution, climate change, waste disposal, ground water and water supplies, contaminated land, natural hazards, resource exploitation and conservation. By predicting how natural processes and human activity might modify the environment in the future, Environmental Earth Science graduates can suggest strategies to prevent, manage and remedy adverse environmental changes.
