New Political Geographies Research Group
The NPGRG is concerned with the theoretical and empirical explanation of emerging new political geographies. We define new political geography as work that engages with the multiple intersections of 'politics' and 'geography'.
The group is led by Dr Rhys Jones with Professor Martin Jones, Professor Michael Woods, Dr Sharron FitzGerald and Dr Mark Whitehead as members. Post-doctoral researchers Dr Jesse Heley, Laura Jones, Dr Jessica Pykett and Dr Suzie Watkin are affiliated with the group. Several members of the Cultural and Historical Geography Research Group also contribute to research on the NPGRG themes.
Since 2007, research in New Political Geographies has been supported by over £1.3 million of grants and contracts, from funding bodies including the Economic and Social Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, the European Commission and the Welsh Assembly Government. The NPGRG also hosts the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) at Aberystwyth, and contributes to the Climate Change Consortium for Wales (C3W).
The group is also committed to policy-related research, engagement with non-academic research users, and to the development of methodology and pedagogy in political geography including the publication of high quality textbooks.
