Conferences Relevant for Luminescence Dating
UK Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating Meetings
These meetings are held every year when there is not an international luminescence and electron spin resonance meeting (i.e. two out of every three years). They are more informal than the international meetings and there is no specific publication associated with them. These have been held at:
- British Museum, London, 1993
- Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, 1994
- Sussex, 1995
- Durham, 1997
- Cheltenham, 1998
- Oxford, 2000
- Glasgow, 2001
- Aberystwyth, 2003
- St Andrews, 2004
- Liverpool, 2006
- Sheffield, 2007
- Royal Holloway, 2009
- Oxford, 2010
The next annual UK luminescence and ESR dating research meeting will be held at Aberystwyth University from 12-14th September 2012. The meeting is intended to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research in trapped charge dating and related work. The meeting will consist of both oral and poster presentations, and presentations by research students are especially encouraged. A web site for the conference has been produced and will be updated nearer the date of the meeting. For any enquiries regarding the meeting contact Prof Geoff Duller (ggd@aber.ac.uk) or Dr Helen Roberts (hmr@aber.ac.uk).
Asia-Pacific Conference on Luminescence Dating
The 3rd Asia Pacific Conference on Luminescence Dating will be held in Okayama, Japan in 2012 from November 18th-22nd. The conference, aimed primarily at Asia-Pacific countries, is open to participants from all over the world. The conference will cover topics ranging from fundamental studies, through advances in equipment technology and analytical procedures, to applications on geological and archaeological materials.
2nd Asia Pacific Conference, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedebad, India, 2009.
1st Asia Pacific Conference, Hong Kong University, October, 2006.
International Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating Conferences
A major conference for the presentation and discussion of luminescence and electron spin resonance dating results is held every three years at various locations around the world. The papers and posters presented at these conferences are normally published in a special edition of Quaternary Science Reviews (recently the Quaternary Geochronology part of this journal), and Radiation Measurements (formerly Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements). The most recent of these conferences are listed below. The next meeting in this series will be held in Montreal, Canada, in 2014.
- 13th International Conference on Luminescence and ESR Dating, Poland, 2011
- 12th International Conference on Luminescence and ESR Dating, Beijing, China, 2008
- 11th International Conference on Luminescence and ESR Dating, Cologne, Germany, 2005
- 10th International Conference on Luminescence and ESR Dating, Reno, Nevada, USA, July 2002
- 9th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Rome, Italy September 1999
- 8th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Canberra, Australia April 1996
- 7th International Specialist Seminar on Thermoluminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Krems, Austria July 1993
- 6th International Specialist Seminar on Thermoluminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Clermont-Ferrand, France July 1990
- 5th International Specialist Seminar on Thermoluminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Cambridge, U.K. July 1987
- 4th International Specialist Seminar on Thermoluminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Worms, Germany July 1984
Luminescence in Archaeology International Symposium
The L.A.I.S. series of symposia were initiated in Delphi 2009, with the aim of bringing together experts in the fields of luminescence, archaeology and archaeo-materials from around the world for the exchange of knowledge.
The 2nd L.A.I.S. will be hosted by GeoLuC at IST/ITN, Lisbon, Portugal, from the 5th - 7th of September 2012. Presentations are invited to focus on contextual, methodological or phenomenological aspects of luminescence studies in archaeology and cultural heritage, including dating and material characterization.
New World Luminescence Dating Workshop
This series of meetings has been held for the last decade and is of interest to luminescence dating specialists, Quaternary geologists, archaeologists, dosimetric scientists and some physics researchers.
The next meeting in the series will be held in Los Angeles, USA, September 6-9th 2012. The First Circular can be downloaded here. The workshop will consist of presentations and discussions on current research in luminescence dating and related fields.
For further information contact Prof Eddie Rhodes at the University of California, Los Angeles (erhodes@ess.ucla.edu)
