Why join the Aberystwyth Mathematics Club
Welcome to the Aberystwyth Mathematics Club (AMC). Its main aim is to provide students and teachers with enjoyable and stimulating mathematics to study. The topics are related to those studied at school/college, but go beyond the typical syllabus. You can read and/or download our material for free; if you become a correspondent, you will receive detailed feedback on any solutions you submit. We provide support in a variety of languages, including Welsh. We hope that you will like and make use of the materials provided. You may find yourself better prepared for studying mathematics at any University, and enjoy it more as a result. Our activities are supported by an outreach programme of visits to schools and colleges.
Mathematics is part of the Institute of Mathematics and Physics (IMAPS). It is a friendly Institute of international research excellence, with enthusiastic and approachable staff who care about your academic progress. We offer a wide selection of mathematics courses, including over thirty joint honours and major/minor schemes. Prestigious Entrance Scholarships are offered, to attract high calibre applicants. Knowledge of topics covered in AMC materials will be an advantage in the mathematics scholarship exams. Our undergraduate intake is smaller than many departments, allowing us to take a personal interest in our students, but large enough to produce a happy and productive environment (more information about Mathematics degrees at Aberystwyth).
In the National Student Survey of 2007, Aberystwyth was 5th in the U.K. and top in Wales with a satisfaction rating of 90%, building on the 90% and 87% achieved in 2006 and 2005 respectively. AMC correspondents applying for a mathematics course will receive a reduced offer. Mathematics at Aberystwyth has recently been boosted by the arrival of new research staff funded by the Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences.
