Physics Busking

Last month a group of physics under and postgraduates were trained in “physics busking”. Funding provided by IOP Wales paid for a trainer who taught us how to use simple props to demonstrate physical concepts in an entertaining way, the aim being to use these skills for outreach purposes. We were asked to perform at our first event at the maths WIMCS Annual Lecture.
A half-dozen undergraduate buskers manned the stall, and using props donated by the IOP, along with more equipment and telescopes generously loaned by Infinity and the department, managed the crowd of nearly 200 curious schoolchildren and entertained and captivated them. For the first event to go so well speaks volumes about the skill and passion of the buskers who came along, and bodes well for any future performances.
