UK Planetary Forum at Aberystwyth

05 October 2009

Alan Wood was recently elected onto the committee of the UK Planetary Forum (UKPF) along with Hugh Mortimer (Chair, RAL) and Julia Cartwright (Manchester). UKPF is a representative body for the UK planetary science community covering all aspects of this field, from planetary interiors to the interaction with the solar wind.

The primary aim of UKPF is to promote planetary research in the UK amongst the scientific community. UKPF runs an email list and website (now hosted at Aberystwyth) which distributes announcements from Science & Technology Facilities Council and the wider community, meetings and job adverts. UKPF also organises various meetings and Alan led the joint proposal from UKPF and MIST for a RAS specialist discussion meeting on “Solar Wind – Magnetosphere – Ionosphere interactions within the solar system”. This proposal has been accepted and the meeting will take place in December. In addition UKPF runs an Early Careers Scientists meeting each autumn.
