Biography
A Glaswegian by birth, Dr John Lane was educated at Queen’s Park Secondary School, within shouting distance of Hampden Park. After completing his BSc in Mathematics with 1st Class Honours at the University of Glasgow, he decided to specialise in the areas of Probability and Statistics at Imperial College, London. After a year’s sabbatical as President of the Imperial College Union, he completed his PhD on Some Limit Theorems for Shot-Noise Processes.
In 1977 John was appointed to a lectureship in Statistics at Aberystwyth. His main interests are in time series analysis and nonlinear regression. For more years than he cares to remember, he has organised the annual Gregynog Statistical Conference, a joint meeting of statisticians from Birmingham, Warwick, Keele and the University of Wales.
