Biography
Howard was brought up in Ystrad Mynach and attended Bargoed Grammer School in the Rhymney Valley. He graduated in physics from this department in 1962, did the postgraduate electronics diploma and then completed a PhD in applied mathematcis with Prof Ken Walters. He then began work at Unilever Research Port Sunlight in 1970, and rose to the position of principal scientist.
Along the way he picked up an OBE for Science and Technology, became a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and was awarded a DSc by the University of Wales. He have also received awards and medals from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the British Society of Rheology. He has written over 80 research papers and published four books.
His interest all along has been in Rheology, and especially the rheology of dispersions of particles in liquids. His other interest in is process engineering - making liquid products.
