Prof Ken Thomas, BSc (Wales), FIM3, FInstP

After working at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington on structure and properties of metals and plastics, Ken now holds an Honorary appointment in the Rheology Group of the Institute of Mathematics and Physics at the University Wales, Aberystwyth. Following research on the behaviour of HDPE in convergent flow succeeded by flow in a die and dieswell, using the 'Polyflow' computer system for 'KBKZ' analysis, present work is on measurement and Giesekus model analysis of dymanic squeeze flow. A basic aspect of polymeric fluids derivable from dynamic mechanical measurements is the multimode relaxation spectrum. He was previously Chairman of the IOP Materials and Characterisation Group and an elected member of the IOP Council, serving on the then Finance and General Purposes Committee.
