Flooding

Floods Update - June 11th

4.00 pm

As a result of the flooding over the weekend, please note the following.

Human Resources (HR)
Due to flood damage at Plas Gogerddan, the University’s HR department has been relocated to the Hugh Owen Building on the Penglais Campus. This is a short term arrangement. It is hoped that HR will move again within the next week to its new permanent home on the Science Park.

Colleagues wishing to contact HR should do so via the usual channels, details of which are available online at http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/hr/.

Plas Gogerddan
As a result of the flood please note that Plas Gogerddan and the immediate surrounding area have been cordoned off for health and safety reasons.

Blaendolau Playing Fields
Whilst the clean-up operation is proceeding, the Blaendolau playing fields will be closed to the public until further notice. Updates on access will be provided in due course on the Sport Centre website http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/sportscentre/.

Ystwyth Surgery
The flooding at Parc y Llyn has forced Ystwyth Medical Group (Ystwyth GP Surgery) to seek alternative accommodation. Following an offer by the University, the practice has relocated to the old Countryside Council of Wales offices which are located next to the Bright Horizons Nursery on the Gogerddan campus. Further details are available online at http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sites3/home.cfm?orgid=762.

Last, but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to colleagues and the emergency services for all the work they have done over the past 72 hours.  In particular the HR team would like to thank the Fire Brigade, the University’s Property Services team and porters for assisting with the safe and secure removal of all personal files from Plas Gogerddan early on Saturday morning.

Updates will be provided via e-mail and online in due course. In the meantime, if you have any questions that relate to any of the above, please direct your requests to communications@aber.ac.uk.

Floods Update - June 10th

11.00 am

Following the heavy rain and flooding in the Aberystwyth area yesterday, weather conditions are improving and travel problems appear to be less severe.

The University is keeping a close watch on the situation and any students who are experiencing difficulties in leaving should, in the first instance, contact the Aberystwyth University Accommodation Office on 01970 622900 or call in the office in Penbryn.

If you are travelling today, please remember to check your route for any remaining road closures. For the latest travel information, visit the BBC Wales traffic page, http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/midwales and http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ for train information.

We anticipate that the University will be operating normally from Monday 11th and that all services will be available on the main Penglais Campus.

Floods Update - June 9th

The heavy rain and flooding at Aberystwyth means that we would like to draw the following to your attention:

All students are able to stay in their accommodation until 10.00am tomorrow morning (Sunday 10th) as per their accommodation licence and we anticipate the transport problems to have reduced by this time. If however this is not the case we will communicate any extensions to the licence period via the Aberystwyth University Accommodation Office Facebook page as soon as possible. If you are travelling today please remember to check your route for any road closures, and a very safe journey to you all.
