The already complex field of copyright has, in recent years been made increasingly difficult by the spread of new technology and the ability to reproduce and disseminate copyright works using digital and electronic means. Many people are surprised at the limitations that still exist in terms of scanning and digitisation and, for instance, fail to recognise that copyright applies to anything placed on the Internet. To compound matters, it is also fair to say that most of the Licensing agencies do not provide adequately for electronic reproduction within the Higher Education environment. This section sets out some of the main issues of which staff and students should be aware, and notes some of the limitations by which you should abide.
