Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act aims to promote greater openness and accountability across the public sector. It gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, sets out exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on public authorities (including universities).
Under the Act the University is required to maintain a Publication Scheme, together with a more detailed Guide to Information which we routinely make available. We hope that this will help you to find information more easily, without having to submit a formal request for information.
The University also has a duty to respond to requests for information within 20 working days. Details on how to make a request, and what you can expect to receive, are available here.
If you are not happy with the way the University has handled a request for information, you have the right to appeal, and this process is described here.
For information on the scope and responsibilities of the University under the Freedom of Information Act, you can consult our Freedom of Information Policy.
