Arrival in Aberystwyth - Arrangements for Students Starting Courses in 2016

On Arrival

On arrival in Aberystwyth we advise you to take a taxi from the town centre so you do not have to carry your luggage up the hill. This should cost you approximately £5. The taxi stand is just across the road from the railway station and around the corner from the coach station. All the taxi drivers are familiar with the university.

If you have requested University accommodation in Halls of Residence then arrangements have been made for youYou should go to the Campus Reception (the small building on the left as you come on to campus via the main entrance).  Campus Reception is open 24 hours per day, seven days per week, so it does not matter at what time you arrive.   Staff there will be able to help you - they will provide you with a key to your room and direct you to your accommodation.

You should report to Campus Reception at 8.50am on the first day of your course.  We will welcome you, provide you with an Induction and help deal with any queries or problems you may have.

You must bring your passport with you.

If you are studying the Pre-Sessional Students and have requested to live in University Accommodation, you will need to pay a £100 deposit on the first day of the course so please make sure you have this with you.

Taxi Service

We can also arrange a taxi service to collect students from the airport using a local taxi company. At busier times, this is the easiest way to reach Aberystwyth and the driver will take you straight to your accommodation. The prices below are an example of the costs based on the taxi company that we regularly use. Please note: if this taxi company is unavailable, the cost of another company might vary.

*Please note that if the driver has to wait for you at Heathrow, there is a charge of £10 per hour waiting time.

These fares are not per person but for the car, so if you are travelling with friends, you can share the cost of the taxi.  The fares are payable in cash to the driver when you arrive.

If you would like this service you will need to let us have the following information:

  • Date of arrival
  • Time of arrival
  • Flight and terminal number
  • Airport (destination)

The driver will hold a sign with your name on it and will not leave the airport without you.
