Working For Us

Summer Jobs at the International English Centre

Summer Courses

Between June and September the IEC runs a range of courses.  These include:

  • International English Language Summer School
  • Trinity TESOL Teacher Training, & Professional Development for Teachers of English
  • Pre-Sessional English for Academic Purposes (for students entering Aberystwyth University in September 2012.)

Many of our summer students are aiming to enter this university, as International Foundation Programme students, undergraduates or postgraduates, and the summer is their opportunity to develop their English language skills as rapidly as possible.  For other students, the summer programme represents an opportunity to improve their English in the hospitable environment of a coastal university in Wales.

For all students there is a social programme with one half-day and one full-day excursion per week, plus a variety of evening activities

Staff

There is a small team of year-round staff, and a number of temporary staff are appointed for the summer, to work as part of the team.

Pre-Sessional Courses 2012

The International EnglishCentre is seeking to appoint more teaching staff for its 6-week Pre-Sessional Course from 30 July to 7 September 2010.

The International English Centre

The International English Centre provides courses in English as a Foreign Langauge (EFL), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and Teacher Training courses throughout the academic year and in the summer.  The English language courses are accredited by the British Council (Accreditation UK).  The Cert TESOL teacher-training courses are validated by Trinity College London.

International Summer School

Between June and September the International English Centre runs a 12-week summer programme, welcoming students from across the world.  This includes:

  1. General English and Communicative Skills courses for overseas language learners.  The summer programme is for individual students, as well as groups from link universities and other organisations worldwide.  There are 20 hours of classroom contact per week.
  2. TESOL teacher training intensive courses from 27th June (5 weeks) and 1st August (5 weeks) validated by Trinity College London.  There are also short Professional Development programmes for practising teachers of English.  Classroom contact hours are 20 – 25 per week and staff work as a team.
  3. Pre-sessional EAP for students entering Aberystwyth University in September 2011.  The programme is accredited by BALEAP and runs as a  12, 6 or 3 week course, depending on student level.  Staff work as a team, and team teaching is common.  There are 20 classroom contact hours per week.

Many of our summer students are aiming to enter this university, at foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate level, and the summer is their opportunity to develop their English language skills as rapidly as possible.

For other students, the summer programme represents an opportunity to improve their English in the hospitable environment of a coastal university in Wales.  These may be individual applicants, or groups of students from our partner universities overseas.

For all students there is a social programme with one half day and one full day excursion per week, plus a variety of evening activities. Under the terms of their contract, teaching staff are expected to accompany excursions, on a rota basis (normally around twice per teacher per month)
