Studying: English Literature and Creative Writing

From: Italy

I was won over by the beautiful environment the town offers, as well as the fact that the University has a very good program for my course.

Why have you chosen to be a Global Ambassador?

I would like to help other international students feel welcome into what is most likely a very different environment from what they are used to. Since I have plenty of experience with being an international student, and have experienced those feeling I thought I would like to help other students, so that they can fully appreciate their time here.

What is the best thing about being an international student?

To me the best thing is the fact that you are always living in two different cultures at once. While sometimes that is really hard, I think that this really opens our minds and we can see and experience different cultures, eventually becoming more attuned to people living in other countries. In the current political climate, I’d say that this is extremely important.

My Course:

I am currently a first year, studying English Literature and Creative Writing. The course is great, with very competent professors and it has enabled me to both read and examine in depth some of my favourite books.

Social life:

During the first week I have met many other international students that share some classes with me, and has the year went on I have made friends with many home students as well. During my time here I am definitely having more than enough opportunities to meet new people, and have a close group of friends.

The best thing about Aberystwyth?

Definitely the people: I will say this for the rest of my life, I have met so many amazing people here. The locals are really nice and always willing to help if asked, and the students are the same.

Advice for prospective students?

Keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to talk to someone if you’re feeling homesick or if you have any kind of problem with anything. Other than that I find that trying to make a lot of friends with home students will help you to feel that you belong here.

Has the University been supportive during your time here?

Definitely. I have received tremendous help from my personal tutor and from other professors and lecturers.

Your future:

I still don’t really know what I would like to do with my future, but I’m thinking of continuing my studies and obtain my masters and then maybe even a PhD. Other than that I will probably change my mind a thousand times about which job I’d like to do, so I guess we’ll see.
