Selamat Datang ke Universiti Aberystwyth!
Malaysia is Aberystwyth’s oldest international partner, with unbroken links for more than 60 years. A strong and highly influential Kuala Lumpur-based Aberystwyth alumni organisation continues an active engagement with the University.
One of the most popular subjects for our Malaysian students is Law. Our Department of Law and Criminology has a relationship with Malaysia dating back to 1951 when Tan Sri Mohd Ghazalie bin Shafie read law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. In recent years the department has welcomed more than 60 Malaysian students every September. Other subjects at Aberystwyth which are of interest to Malaysians include Business and Management; Information and Library Studies; Biological Environmental and Rural Sciences; International Politics; Theatre, Film and TV Studies and Computer Science.

Postgraduate Courses
Generally, the minimum entry requirement for most taught Masters courses is a lower second class honours degree (2.2). However, some departments may require upper second class honours degrees (2.1) (e.g. Department of International Politics) or relevant work experience (e.g. for MBA programme).
If you are applying for a research or funded Masters and PhD course you should hold or expect to achieve an upper second class (2.1) honours degree or above.
Non-graduates with at least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience are welcome to apply for any Masters course. In this instance your application will be judged on an individual basis. They may not however apply for a place on a PGDE course or for a PhD programme.
The following table shows how Malaysian qualifications compare with UK degrees.
| UK 2ii Honours standard | UK 2i Honours standard | UK Masters standard |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's 2ii Honours | Bachelor's 2i Honours | Master's degree |

English Language
If you are a non-UK student or your native or first language is not English you will need to show evidence you have a sufficient knowledge of English - this level of proficiency in English must be proved before you begin your course. If you have not achieved the required level prior to the receipt of the application for admission, the formal offer for postgraduate study will include a condition that you will need to attain this level before the start of your course. If you do not attain the required level of proficiency, it will not be possible to admit you onto the course. You can view the level of English required here.
