International Students Visit National Library
International students, accompanied by IRC staff, were recent guests at the National Library of Wales, in an evening event which had been especially organised for them.
A large group of international students, from over 14 countries, responded to the kind invitation by the National Library and representatives from the Library were at the door to offer a very warm welcome with refreshments provided in the Drwm.
The evening’s programme of events included an interesting illustrated talk about the history of the Library by Manon Foster Evans, Head of Reader Services. Carol Edwards from the Reader Services Section, explained how students can join and use the facilities. Sion Jobbins, NLW Press Office, conducted a tour of the Reading Rooms - amazing the students with facts and figures and providing entertaining anecdotes. As a special treat, Sion led the group through the Library’s archives and showed what happened ‘behind the scenes’.
The students very much enjoyed their private visit – one student commented: “I was very impressed by the modernised National Library of Wales. The glass displays and statues throughout gave credence to the accomplishments of the past and fuelled inspiration. The rare books collection allured me. Overall the building and its interior suggest a continuation of learning and preservation of the great feats of our literary culture.”
