Guest lecture in Tokyo and seminar presentation on Wales
On Friday 30 September, Jonathan Richards, Director of the International Office, was pleased to be invited to Tsuda College to deliver a guest lecture on: “Contemporary Wales: Language, Culture, Politics and Change”. He was welcomed and introduced by Professor Sugisaki from the International and Cultural Studies Department and was pleased to give the group of Tsuda students in attendance a variety of information about Wales and its place in the 21st century form a number of angles. The students were introduced to Welsh literature, music and culture; were given a short introduction to Welsh devolution and the work of the Assembly Government; and also learnt- very quickly- a few Welsh phrases. Aber gets creative in Arizona!
On 1st March six members of the Department of English and Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University set out for Phoenix, Arizona as part of a significant collaboration with the Virginia G Piper Centre for Creative Writing at Arizona State University (ASU). Four of the team were creative writing PhD students (Kath Stansfield, Dave Towsey, Maria Apichella and Kate Wright) who had been selected to attend the prestigious Desert Nights, Rising Stars writers' conference as delegates; the other two were Professor Jem Poster and Dr Tiffany Atkinson, who had been invited to attend as visiting faculty for the conference. Visit by Henan University of Technology on 10th August 2011
On Wednesday 10th August, Vice President Li and Director Liu of Henan University of Technology (HAUT) visited Aberystwyth with a view to looking at potential areas of cooperation involving several of our academic departments. Taiwanese gift to Aberystwyth University
Aberystwyth University was recently presented with a generous gift by Tamkang University, Danshui, Taiwan. The gift of a digitised limited edition copy of the 40 years content of the prestigious International Open Access Journal, Journal of Educational, Media and Library Services, from 1970-2010 was presented to the University by Editor in Chief of the Journal, Professor Jeong-Yeou Chiu, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Tamkang University, Taiwan.
