About our Staff

Rachel Tod - Director, International Office at Aberystwyth University.  Rachel has worked for Aberystwyth University since 2005 when she first arrived in the UK. Originally from New Zealand, Rachel was raised in Australia moving back to New Zealand to complete her BCom (Marketing Management) at Otago University.  Rachel’s career in the Higher Education sector began in 1997 and she has since represented universities in New Zealand, Australia and now Wales.

Susan Jenkins, PA to Rachel Tod and International Administrator, has worked for the University since 1990 and is the first point of contact for all external bodies and departments within the University.  Susan brings a wealth of experience to the International Office in her dealings with international work; alumni relations; PR and the Study Abroad Office.

Ruth Owen, International Partnerships Manager - Prior to this Ruth was International Officer covering South Asia as well as Malaysia, Norway, Thailand and Turkey.  She has also held the post of Job Link Manager at the University’s Careers Service. Ruth graduated from Warwickshire Agricultural College with a degree in Equine Studies and Business Management and holds a postgraduate certificate in Management and Marketing here at Aberystwyth. 

Marian Gray, International Officer - Marian graduated from Durham University with a degree in English Literature and enjoyed an interesting and varied career across many sectors before joining Aberystwyth University in 2012 as a Careers Adviser.

Murtza Ali Ghaznavi - Middle East Manager, is responsible for promoting collaboration and recruitment primarily in the Middle East Region as well as the CIS and Africa.  Born and raised in Dubai, UAE he attained his LLB and MBA in the UK and has subsequently represented higher education institutions in his home region as well as acted as a market entry specialist for various private sector clients in both the Middle East and the CIS regions.

Catrin Lewis, Compliance Officer, is responsible for ensuring Aberystwyth University's compliance with the UK Border Agency's Immigration policies and legislation.  Prior to this, Catrin was the University's Contracts Officer in the Commercialisation and Consultancy Services Department.  Catrin is a graduate of Cardiff University where she completed an LLB and the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

Shân Mumford:  Shân’s background is predominantly in the public sector having worked at the Department of Work and Pensions and recently with UK Border Agency with extensive advisory and immigration experience; she has also worked with the Prince's Trust on a voluntary basis as Development Coach.  Shân has family connections in the Ceredigion area and she has recently relocated from the Wirral to Aberystwyth.

Iona Hopkins is our Student Exchanges, Study Abroad and Partnerships Officer.  Her work focuses on the Erasmus and the North American Exchange Programme, our Study Abroad (SYA/JYA) programme for visiting students, and assisting with co-ordination of our International Partnerships.  Iona graduated from Bangor University with an MA in European Studies.  She also completed her undergraduate degree in History and French at Bangor where she spent a year abroad as a language assistant in the North of France.

Tobias Schubert - Graduate International Recruitment and Marketing Assistant based in the Study Abroad Office. Toby graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2012 with an MSc in Remote Sensing and GIS.  He also studied for BSc Geography at the University of Southampton.
