Erasmus

Outgoing Students

When you graduate you will be competing in a huge employment market with people from other member states of the European Union and beyond.  All academic disciplines at Aberystwyth are committed to working in an European and international context.  We take seriously our responsibility to prepare you to be competitive in seeking employment throughout Europe.  We are helped in this aim by participating in the mobility programme Erasmus.

You can find out if you’re eligible for Erasmus at the British Council website.

There are many benefits to being an Erasmus student.  Here are only some of the advantages:

  • An Erasmus grant is available for both Study and Work placements
  • Learn in an European context and gain full recognition from Aberystwyth for the courses you studied abroad through ECTS
  • You can still graduate with all your friends-the length of your course will not change!
  • Improve your career prospects
  • Develop and international perspective at an overseas university or enterprise
  • Form a large circle of international friends

To be nominated to a partner university, please contact your Departmental Year Abroad Co-ordinator.  Also, keep a look out for departmental briefings on the year abroad!

Language Courses

The successful participation in European exchange schemes is greatly facilitated if you are fluent in the relevant European language. At Aberystwyth you are able to pursue a number of European Languages at a beginners’ level alongside or as part of your main degree subject. This provides you with a valuable preparation for your exchange visit. The benefits to you of a period abroad, either working or studying, include a working knowledge of the language and culture of another country and greater self-confidence. In addition employers are increasingly conscious of the value of the skills and attitudes which result from such experiences.
