Location

The main campus is located in the Gordon Head area of Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island and spans a massive 403 acres. Victoria has some of the warmest winters in Canada so snow is not common in the city. The city has a lively nightlife with lots of bars and clubs and also you can also take the chance to enjoy the vibrant culture with Victoria playing host to various international film, music, art and cultural festivals as well as poetry readings and musical performances.

The city of Victoria is just 60 miles from the bigger metropolitan centre of Vancouver which experiences a colder winter so there is the opportunity for winter sports.

Courses

Most courses are offered in both English and French, but students do not need to be bilingual. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their department’s exchange coordinator. There are a number of course available that are similar to the following departments in Aberystwyth. Accommodation

There are some places available for exchange students in on-campus housing but they are not guaranteed. For this reason it is important that students submit their applications as soon as possible. Rates very depending on the type of accommodation. 

Visa Information and Other Costs

Depending on the duration of the exchange, some students may not need a visa or study permit to attend University of Victoria. However students must check if they will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to enter Canada. This currently costs $7 CAD. If you do need a study permit then according to the Canadian goverment's website 'Your eTA or visa will be issued to you at the same time as your study permit. You do not need to apply separately or to pay an additional fee.'

ALL students attending University of Victoria MUST participate have valid health insurance. Students must enrol in the British Columbia Medical Services Plan when they arrive in the country.

Getting There‌

The closest international airport to Victoria is Victoria International Airport which is about a 7 hour flight from London. From here there is a shuttle bus that will take you to campus. Ticket prices for the shuttle bus can be found on the company's website. Alternatively students can take a taxi.

*If your arrival airport is Vancouver International then you will have to either take a ferry or a connecting flight to Vancouver Island.*

How to Apply

All students wishing to go on an exchange to University of Victoria must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department.
