What happens if I need to resit examinations, or course modules?
We would strongly recommend that you discuss your situation with your departmental tutor before taking any action with regards to your visa. It may be possible for you to retake examinations in August, or in January before your visa expires. Your tutor will be able to advise you on this. However, if your visa expires before you are able to retake examinations, there are a number of options available to you:
- It may be possible for you to retake the examination as an ‘external’ resit student, at an approved centre in your home country. Please contact the Academic Office to check whether this can be arranged
- You could apply for a visitor visa to return to the UK to retake the examination as an ‘external’ resit student. Please note that you will be required to return home when your current visa expires, and to apply for a visitor visa from overseas. You should request a letter from the Academic Office confirming that you will be retaking examinations to be used in support of your application
- It may be possible for you to re-enrol as an ‘internal’ resit student in order to retake your failed modules. You will require approval from the Academic Office in order to re-enrol as an ‘internal’ student. If you meet the requirements, we will issue you with a ‘Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies’ (CAS) which you will require in order to extend your student visa. You will be required to attend at lectures and seminars in order the meet the UKBA requirements. Please note that if you switch from an ‘internal’ to an ‘external’ resit student after we have issued a CAS certificate, the University will withdraw the CAS
