Applying from within the UK / Extending your visa/leave to stay
Please note that if you wish to extend your stay here as a student, you must have entered the UK with a student or prospective student status. It is not permitted to change from visitor or dependant to student status whilst in the UK.
When should I apply to extend my visa (leave) to stay in the UK?
You must apply before your current visa expires. If your visa has already expired, please contact the International Student Adviser immediately for advice.

Can I have my application checked before submitting it?
The department of Student Support offers an extension application checking service. When you have filled in your form and collected all the supporting documents, contact the International Student Adviser to make an appointment to have your form and documents checked, by e-mailing: internationaladvice@aber.ac.uk
Please note that we can only offer you a half hour appointment, therefore, please ensure that you have completed all the necessary parts of the application form, and that you have all the necessary documentation to support your application.
How do I submit my application?
In person
You can apply in person at one of the UKBA public enquiry offices. The public enquiry offices offer a premium same-day service for non-EEA nationals who are making straightforward applications to extend their stay or settle in the United Kingdom. UKBA charges £716 for this premium service.
You must book an appointment in advance. Contact details, opening hours, maps and directions are available on the UKBA website.
By post
You can send your application yourself through the post office by Special delivery. The UKBA charges £394 for this service.
Via the Student Support “Batch Scheme”
You can apply through the Student Support office using the “Batch Scheme” postal service. The UKBA charges £394 for this service.
Please note that there is a considerable delay in applying by post, and students are advised not to make any plans to travel or book any flights, until their documents are returned.
