My research will examine the the nuclear relationship between the United States and Russia (1991-2010) through an exploration of the nature and role of the concept of ‘trust’. This project aims to assess the patterns of trust and uncertainty between two states over time through an analysis of existing multi-disciplinary work on the idea of trust combined with the case study research. This approach will address the question of how a complex and relational concept such as trust is thought of and dealt with in both IR and non-IR literature, and how the application of theories of trust from across the social sciences and the arts and humanities might open up new ways of thinking about this nuclear relationship.
