Maps

Aberystwyth University Libraries have collections of maps in two locations. In addition to this there is the E.G. Bowen Map Library in the Llandinam building housing a large and comprehensive collection of maps and atlases.

Thomas Parry Library

Maps - There are three main collections of maps and atlases in the Thomas Parry Library, as well as some in the Lending Collection. The maps collection consists of Ordnance Survey maps, atlases and agriculture maps.  

Atlases - There is an atlas collection in one area of the Research Room. 

Ordnance Survey maps - There is a complete set of 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey maps in filing cabinets in the corner of the Research Room. There are also some flat Ordnance Survey maps in the Agriculture maps drawers next to them.

Agriculture maps - There are large maps in wooden drawers in the Research Room. They cover subjects such as land use, soil types, rainfall, and maps showing designated areas. The key below indicates the type of map in each drawer.

Some similar material can be found in with the atlases (see above), for example The atlas of Britain and Northern Ireland (REF ATL 912.41 ATL) may be useful for rainfall maps. Also there are a lot of soil maps for the individual parts of the country in the main Lending Collection at 631.4(420) to 631.4(428) on bay 13a.

Hugh Owen Library

There is a collection of Wales and the borders OS maps in the Quick Reference Collection on Level F of the Hugh Owen Library.
