Unified Messaging (Voice mail)

Unified Messaging (UM) allows you to access different types of electronic communications (e.g. email and voice mail) using a single interface from a variety of devices.

At Aberystwyth University, Microsoft Exchange along with the Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony infrastructure are used to provide UM. It allows you to receive voice mails into your email inbox that you can then access using Outlook, Outlook Web Access, smart phones (such as Windows Mobile devices running Activesync or Apple iPhones), or by calling a number on the telephone.

UM improves productivity and efficiency by simplifying your communications as there is now only one place to check for messages (in your inbox). Furthermore, it also allows voice mails to be manipulated like email, e.g. forwarding, replying, and adding notes.

To use this service you must:

  • be a member of staff
  • use Microsoft Exchange for your email
  • have a VoIP phone
  • have your own telephone number. i.e. there is a single number for you, not shared with any other staff

Information on how to apply for and use this service can be found in our Voice Mail FAQs
