Study Carrels

A limited number of carrels are available in Hugh Owen and Thomas Parry libraries for research postgraduates who need accommodation when making intensive use of library materials. These carrels have sockets so you can connect your own computer to the University network.

There are also some carrels in the Law Library. Law postgraduates have priority over these carrels, but if they are not booked up then postgraduates from other departments can book these on the same terms as above. If these carrels are not rented, undergraduates from all departments can use them on a weekly basis charged at £2.50 per week with a refundable £20.00 deposit for the key. Full replacement costs must be paid for a lost key.

The use of carrels is currently charged at £10.00 per month with a refundable £20.00 deposit for the key. Full replacement costs - £25 - must be paid for a lost key.

In addition there are two carrels on Level F of the Hugh Owen Library, containing a computer, which are available for daily use by all students on a first come first served basis. A refundable £5.00 deposit is required for the key and full replacement costs must be paid for a lost key.

Apply at the Enquiry Desk in Hugh Owen or at the Information Desk in Thomas Parry. Because of high demand at some periods of the year, it may be necessary to wait some time until one becomes available.
