Exam skills - make the grade
To help students focus on exam success right at the start of their new modules, Information Services held an Exams Skills Celebration in the Hugh Owen Library on the afternoon of Wednesday February 9th 2011.
This free event consited of lunch, information stalls and a Q & A session, culminating in a Resource Discovery Conga and a prize draw for a Kindle. It was funded by the National Libraries for Life programme to celebrate good practice, highlight resources and challenge the stereotypical image of Libraries. It encouraged reflection on performance in recent exams and focuses on skills, resources and techniques that can be used in the future.
The Welcome Centre, Guild of Students, Careers Service and Bookshop all had stalls. A short film of students talking about their revision and exam experiences [1,2] was shown to introduce a Q & A session, where a panel of experts answered questions about ‘Making the Grade’ and ‘Reading for a Good Degree’. The celebration’s finale was a Resource Discovery Conga that highlighted crucial areas of the Library, followed by the prize draw for a Kindle.
