Hosting of Web Pages for Users who are not Members of the University

In early 2004 the University amended the rules on the computing facilities offered to people who leave the University but are given permission to continue to use computing services and to visitors who are extended the privilege of using AU computing services.

Computing accounts in these categories can no longer offer Web pages on any network. Users can of course construct pages but there is no mechanism for them to be 'published' at AU or on the Internet.

Commercial  ISPs offering such a facility are now widely available. AU is operating its online services under an increasingly tight legal framework and users in these categories do not easily fit within the regulatory framework in place for current staff and students.

Anyone in these categories who feel they have a case to have Web pages made available must approach the Registrar for specific permission.

There are occasions where a continuing member of a department wishes pages from a former colleague or ex-student to remain available for an agreed period. This can be arranged by contacting Information Services on the understanding that the material within the pages become the responsibility of the person making the request should any problem arise.
