English Speaking Exchanges for All Other Students
It is an option for any student on an LLB or BA Law degree to study a year or a semester at one of our English-speaking partner universities. While most of our exchanges are with law departments, there are also some limited options for Criminology students.
Currently we have the following 10 English-speaking partner universities…
European Partner Universities
- Bergen- Norway (2 places)
- Brno - Czech Republic (1 place)
- Budapest- Hungary (1 place)
- Helsinki- Finland (4 places)
- Katowice - Poland (1 place)
- Malta - Malta (2 places)
- Salzburg - Austria (2 places)
- Uppsala - Sweden (2 places)
- Utrecht - Netherlands (3 places) - some criminology subjects
- Wrozlaw - Poland (1 place)
And here are SEVEN reasons why you might want to spend a year/semester abroad…
1. You’ll see new places and new faces, learn new ways of doing things and study with young dynamic people from all over Europe. All courses are taught in English; often they are specifically aimed at students like you i.e. they have an international or non-country specific subject-matter.
2. You’ll take a gap year without the gap - your LLB will still only last three years. Your second year is spent at the foreign university.
3. You’ll still cover all your core subjects at home in your first and third year; effectively you use your credits for options in your second year abroad. You cover all the 'important' subjects in Aberystwyth i.e. all the subject you need to gain a qualifying law degree.
4. You’ll end up with an LLB with attitude...which may make all the difference when applying for jobs. Your final degree will be a perfectly 'normal' British law degree. At the same time your year abroad will show that you have maturity, worldliness and a spirit of independence and curiosity.
5. You will not be paying any more than you would have studying in Aberystwyth (and indeed there is the possibility of a monthly living allowance whilst abroad, subject to annual governmental approval).
6. You’ll have fun and adventure. Of course, you are expected to do some work. Your foreign marks count towards your final degree classification, but to a slightly lesser extent than the home-grown ones.
7. You’ll never get a chance like this again.
