Getting to Aberystwyth

The Town

Aberystwyth is situated on the West Coast of Wales. It is one of the main commercial, administrative, social and shopping centres for the Mid-Wales area, which itself is predominantly rural and an important tourist region. Aberystwyth has a reputation as an international centre of learning, being not only the oldest part of the University of Wales, but also the location of the National Library of Wales and a number of other educational and research institutions.

The University

The University at Aberystwyth was founded over 125 years ago and is now spread between the town and two campus sites. The Department of Law & Criminology is centrally located on the main campus on Penglais Hill, which overlooks the town and the sea. The University at Aberystwyth has at present a total of around 7,500 students and is organised into three Faculties - Arts, Science and Economic and Social Studies. The Department of Law & Criminology is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The Department of Law & Criminology

The Department of Law & Criminology has over 700 students on its main undergraduate (LLB and BA) and postgraduate (LLM, MPhil and PhD) degree schemes, while a number of students from other degree schemes also take courses in Law. Students normally take the equivalent of twelve semester-long modules each year.
