Information for prospective international students

Student Life

There are a large number of students' societies and clubs.  Within the Department of Law & Criminology there is a Students' Law Society.  Sports Facilities are generally available and there is an Arts Centre located on the Penglais Campus. Social venues in the town are close at hand.

Language Classes

The Language and Learning Centre at the University can assess students' English language skills and is able to provide continuing support for students during their programme of studies. Short courses of English language training before the start of the academic year can also be arranged.

Housing / Accommodation

When the student's application form has been received the University Accommodation Office will arrange accommodation for the duration of the students' programme of studies. Most accommodation is situated on the university campus (study bedrooms and meals provided, or fully furnished self-catering), although for campus accommodation priority may be given to students who are resident for the whole academic year.

Finance and Insurance

Apart from accommodation costs, students will, of course, need money for other living expenses. Before leaving, it would be sensible to insure any property being brought during the students' time of stay in the UK and to have medical insurance cover for the journey and first one or two days in the UK before registering under the UK National Health Service. Also it would be wise to check in advance exactly what reciprocal health care arrangements apply as between the UK and the students' own country. For further information please see the Finance Office website.
