Postgraduate Studies

Professor John Williams - Head of Postgraduate Studies

Welcome to the Aberystwyth Postgraduate School of Law and Criminology website! I hope you will take a few minutes to explore the site.

You can find out about Departmental research interests as well as all you need to know to make an application to study here. Many staff work actively with government agencies, as well as international organisations and NGOs.

The Department also participates actively in international and European academic networks, for purposes of both student mobility and exchanges (for instance through the Socrates programme) and staff and postgraduate research. We offer Research Degrees, Masters degrees by research and Taught Masters. Since we like to go that bit further, we also offer a very successful and popular Masters by Distance Learning (Environmental Law and Management, Information Technology Law, International Business Law and Human Rights and Humanitarian Law), which attracts students from all corners of the globe.

We have expanded our Taught Masters programme and are able to offer a Taught Masters in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law as well as the scheme via distance learning. This programme will enable students to acquire significant expertise in human rights broadly defined, in international and domestic law.

For those wishing to become a solicitor, we offer a Legal Practice Course in state of the art dedicated premises.  If you wish to undertake research we offer supervision in all the main areas of law and criminology.  Please check the links for staff members to find out about their expertise and interests.

Aberystwyth is a great place to live and study. Aberystwyth University is among the top three places in the world to be a student and has the highest level of student satisfaction, according to the 2012 International Student Barometer which has just been published.

Aberystwyth ranks number 3 of 238 Higher Education institutions worldwide for the elements 'good place to be' and 'overall student satisfaction'.  The International Student Barometer is the largest annual survey of students and has gathered information from more than 600,000 students worldwide since its establishment in 2005.  It incorporates over 500 institutions in 150 countries on 5 continents.

The University performed exceptionally well in all aspects of a student's experience.  From the initial welcome on their first weekend, through to the teaching and learning facilities and academic support, students at Aberystwyth reported that the quality of the academic experience available to them was amongst the very best.

I hope you will decide to find out for yourself.
