Legal Practice Course
Effective Careers Support
We know that one of the big things on your mind is finding a training contract to complete your training as a solicitor. That is why, at Aberystwyth, you will find careers and probono sessions timetabled in your course. Our local contacts also ensure you have opportunities to gain experience in firms, local community agencies and county courts. In choosing Aberystwyth you will become part of a much larger community with graduates and contacts all over the UK and the rest of the world. We have strong links with the Legal profession in England and Wales to ensure you have access to a variety of guest speakers, practical experience and training opportunities when you graduate.
The Department has strong links with the local profession and beyond. The Centre for Legal Practice has a large database of firms that are regularly surveyed regarding work experience, training contracts and other opportunities for working with the centre and the Legal Practice Course. Work experience placements with local firms will be arranged for LPC students as they become available.
A member of the LPC staff is appointed to act as a Careers and Liaison Officer. S/he keeps students informed of vacancies, helps in the arrangements with local firms and actively pursues work experience opportunities, training contract placements and mentoring. All personal tutors are made aware of job and career opportunities.
In addition, the University Careers Advisory Service provides advice and assistance to all students. There is a full website that contains useful information, helpful leaflets and career development planners, together with links to other sites such as the Prospects, the official graduate careers site.

"The tutors were so accommodating - giving practical careers advice and mock interviews. They really helped me get my training contract."
