Career Opportunities

Criminology provides a good academic base for those considering careers in the police, the prison service, the national probation service, social work, youth justice, community care and criminal intelligence agencies. It is also a sound training for those interested in a career in regulatory fields such as trading standards, customs and excise, the factory and tax inspectorates, the Health and Safety Executive or the National Rivers Authority; as well as charities and NGOs such as Amnesty, NACRO and human rights agencies; or a very broad range of other careers.

Any of our degrees provide the research and analytical background necessary for postgraduate study at both Master's and Doctoral levels as well as providing the possibility of research related employment within, for example, the Home Office or the media. For those wishing to seek employment outside the area of criminology the general research, presentation and learning skills which are a fundamental aspect of our degrees open all sorts of professional avenues.  Finally the degree stands students in good stead for making a positive contribution to civic society.
