Partly field-based, this course covers a wide range of topics and gives an excellent introduction to geology. Indoor sessions will also be used to introduce topics before field visits or consolidate knowledge gained after visits. Areas covered include; the main rock forming minerals and rock types and how to identify them; the basic concepts of stratigraphy and simple geological structures such as folds and faults; identify geological structures in the field interpreting and using geological maps; making observations in the field.
