The results are part of a wider success story at Aberystwyth University which is rated the best in Wales and one of the top five higher education institutions in the UK for overall student satisfaction, according to the 2017 NSS data (weblink).

The results show that overall satisfaction amongst students at Aberystwyth University stands at 91% - seven percentage points higher than the UK figure of 84%.

Professor Wini Davies, Head of Modern Languages at Aberystwyth University, said: “Our aim in Modern Languages is to produce students with a high level of subject expertise and also the ability and confidence to take charge of their own learning, whether in a lecture theatre, the library or during the year abroad.

“To help students fulfil their potential we aim to provide not only an excellent learning experience in a supportive environment but also an exceptional overall student experience. We are therefore extremely pleased to see that 96% of our students are satisfied with the teaching on their course and 93% said they were satisfied overall. In addition we got full marks (100%) for staff being good at explaining things and for making the subject interesting, which makes the process of learning so much more enjoyable and inspiring for our students.”

If you’re interested in studying at Aberystwyth University’s Modern Languages department and finding out why our students are so satisfied with their courses, it’s not too late. We still have some clearing places left for the 2017-18 academic year or come and visit during one of our Open Days.

The NSS figures follow closely on the heels of the latest employability figures for UK universities which showed that 95% of Aberystwyth University graduates were in work or further study six months after graduating in 2016.

The National Student Survey is carried out annually by IPSOS Mori on behalf of all the UK’s funding councils and other bodies, interviewing more than 300,000 final year students in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Students are asked to rate institutions on the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and student voice.

Aberystwyth University’s rankings are based on the overall satisfaction question and use the list of higher education institutes from The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
