At the end of this modules students should be able to:

  • describe the sources relevant to tracing current professional issues;
  • discuss professional issues from previous decades;
  • outline those current issues pertinent to a particular sector of the library and information profession:
  • describe some of the current issues generally facing the library and information profession;
  • examine in detail one specific current professional issue;
  • relate your knowledge of the issues to the workplace.

Brief description

This module will introduce students to various current professional issues, which will differ from year to year. The relevant information sources are investigated, and guest speakers will discuss specific current issues. Students examine issues from a previous decade, and report in detail on one current issue of their choice.
