Brief description
This module addresses the conceptual and practical nature of tourism development. Using a variety of international case studies, students are encouraged to analyse the tourism development process in developed and developing nations.
Aims
The main aims of the module are to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of the concept of development in tourism, to apply the concept of development of international tourism, and to evaluate tourism development strategies in a range of destination countries and regions.
Module Skills
Skills Type | Skills details |

Communication | Students are required to prepare and deliver a presentation on tourism development as part of their assessment. They will also be allocated as discussants with the task of listening to presentations made by other students, and asking appropriate questions. This will form part of the marking scheme of the presentation assignment. |
Information Technology | Students will access the Internet when gathering information for their presentation assignment, as well as the library on-line catalogue. They will also be required to present statistical data in appropriate formats, including tables and graphs. They will need to prepare and use an effective PowerPoint slide show. This will all be assessed in the presentation. |
Team work | The presentation assignment will be undertaken in small groups. This will require students to set their group's goals, plan their group's activities and play an active part in the group's activities. |
