Learning Outcomes
On sucessful completion of this module, students should be able, within the parameters approprate to a wide-ranging introductory course, to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of some of the basic principles of writing in the following modes: short story, poetry, life-writing;
2. demonstrate an ability to deploy that understanding in the practical context of their own construction of creative work in these modes;
3. employ appropriate research as an integral part of their own creative work;
4. demonstrate, in evaluative prose, an awareness of their own writing processes;
5. demonstrate, by the revisionof work previously discussed in workshops, an ability to improve their writing in response to criticism.
Brief description
This is an introductory course, geared to the needs of students beginning their undergraduate creative writing studies. Students will be introduced to a number of literary genres (in the broad sense of the term) and will be given guidance in the application of their learning to their writing practice.
