Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the key gross and microscopic components of the horse, sheep, cattle and pig reproductive systems.

Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the control of reproduction in both the male and female.

Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the physiology of pregnancy, parturition and lactation in the female.

Brief description

The aims of the module are:

To consider in detail the gross and microscopic reproductive physiology and reproductive control mechanisms in horses and farm livestock. This will include functional anatomy of the reproductive systems of the male and female, placentation and lactation.

It will achieve this by considering the following areas

• Male and female reproductive anatomy
• Control of reproduction in the male and female
• Manipulation of reproduction.
• Anatomy and control of pregnancy and parturition
• Anatomy of the mammary gland and control of lactation

Aims

The aims of the module are:
