Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  1. Apply the mathematics and statistical methods required by practicing geoscientists
  2. Practice site investigations in accordance with BS5930: Code of practice for site investigations
  3. Apply and interpret the geophysical techniques used in site investigations

Content

  1. Data Analysis: Analysis and interpretation of geochemical data.
  2. Data Analysis: Analysis and interpretation of geochemical data.
  3. Data Analysis: Numeric skills for geoscientists (ie. estimating ore body sizes).
  4. Data analysis: Numeric skills for geoscientists).
  5. Site investigations: site investigation procedures according to BS5930.
  6. Site investigations: map work, surveying and GPS.
  7. Site investigations: boreholes, trial pits and sampling.
  8. Geophysics: seismic reflection and refraction.
  9. Geophysics: magnetic surveying and resistivity surveying.
  10. Geophysics: ground penetrating radar.

Brief description

This module will be in 3 parts: data analysis; site investigations and geophysical methods used in site investigations.
