Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Critically evaluate the key concepts and models in health education

Critically discuss how the health message is promoted by referring to a wide range of epidemiological studies;

Critically discuss the influences of health education and promotion on society

Critically examine the key roles of: schools, families, health care organization, and industry, to effectively promote health education.

Brief description

The last 20 years has witnessed an on-going debate as to what constitutes the best strategy for improving the health of the nation. Among the issues examined are: key concepts in health education; the influence of diet, exercise and physiological stress on health; indicators to good health; epidemiology and its role in health education; risky behaviours; health education and promotion; factors influencing the health promoting message; the influence of health promotion on society; health and academic performance; and health promotion in schools
