Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Use a range of functions, structures and vocabulary to talk and write about familiar and everyday topics with ease
Present a clear position on a range of familiar and unfamiliar topics on which a student is able to speak and write at length. The interaction has with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction and sustained relationships possible without imposing strain on either party (CEFR B2)
Highlight the personal significance of events and experiences, account for and sustain views clearly by providing relevant explanations and arguments in both writing and speaking (CEFR B2)
Use an adequate range of vocabulary and will attempt to use less common vocabulary but with some inaccuracy
Construct and use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms
Discuss and make comparisons with regard to topical, political, social and cultural issues
Discuss, compare and contrast UK study, work and cultural norms with those of own culture/s
Brief description
This module will develop, extend and consolidate the general & academic language and study skills needed for successful study at AU.
The UK higher education systems and those of the wider cultural system in which it is embedded will also be covered.
