Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate scenographic dramaturgical skills in the construction of a scenographic event.
2. Conduct informed independent research and creative functioning leading to solo exposition.
3. Evaluate critically, procedures of scenographic practices in the creation of a scenographic event.
4. Critically evaluate and exercise judgment on the diverse media and compositional techniques employed in the preparation of appropriate documents of proposal.
5. Demonstrate the ability to take sole responsibility for determining and achieving personal research outcomes.
Brief description
This is an advanced production module resulting in the creation of a solo scenographic event. It offers students the opportunity to critically reflect upon and contextualise a chosen area/s of specialisation within contemporary scenographic practice. Students will conceive and create a scenographic event 'performed' through time with space/light/body/sound (as appropriate), devised from a theme of their own choosing. As a guide, the event should be of 20 minutes duration but other durational frames may be discussed with the course tutors. Students will have access to departmental spaces and facilities, alternatively the event may be located at any site of the student’s choosing (subject to approval) within the Aberystwyth area. Students will be required to produce a documented presentation in advance of the event – a 'pitch', outlining the scenographic imperatives, contexts and methodologies that will drive the creation of the event and to detail any practical requirements. It is advised that this forms the basis, along with retrospective documentation of the event, of a proposal that may be used to promote the students work (in line with other elements of assessment in TP35820 (Advanced Scenographic Project) upon graduation.
Aims

- To develop and assess the compositional techniques employed in the construction of documents of self-presentation.

Content
The module is taught via 5 x 2 hour fortnightly seminars linked to the composition of students' solo projects and research documentation. On the alternate weeks students will be offered 5 x 30 minute individual tutorials where specific consideration will be given to the development of their solo project with discussion being prepared for and driven by the student. 5 x 1 hour related technical demonstrations for each solo project will be held as required. 'Site/studio' visits during the final 2 weeks before assessment will also be arranged as required.
