Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Evaluate and apply knowledge from the sub-disciplines of sport and exercise science to self-chosen theme.

Demonstrate knowledge of a client-centred approach to sport and exercise science support work.

Demonstrate knowledge of professional accreditation frameworks, ethics, and codes of practice when working with clients.

Produce an applied analysis of a self-chosen setting inthe form of a client-centred proposal for consultancy demonstrating evaluation and application of knowledge from the sub-disciplines of sport and exercise science.

Aims

The current Applied and Thematic Skills module focuses on the structured development of a number of generic skills, provides opportunities for career development and enhancement, and also the application of sport and exercise science. The new University Skills modules (1 and 2) and restructured Work Experience modules allows for Applied and Integrated Studies to focus on the application of sport and exercise science to real life sport and exercise settings in Years 2 and 3.

Brief description

The purpose of this module is to build upon the multidisciplinary approach taken in Year 2, and take an integrated approach in the development of knowledge in sport and exercise science.

Skills Type Skills details
Application of Number Calculations to be completed in portfolio.
Communication The portfolio requires effective written communication, while the poster presentation requires effective communication of information in a visual format.
Improving own Learning and Performance Students will engage in self-reflection, personal development planning and reviewing and will gain opportunities to develop personal study skills.
Information Technology Students will be required to use information technology such as bibliographic databases to soruce and present information, respectively and to use Powerpoint to produce a scientific poster.
Personal Development and Career planning Students consider career-related issue.
Problem solving In workshop activities throughout the module.
Research skills Using bibliographic databases to source references.
