The people of Ceredigion are being challenged to run a mile long relay in less than 4 minutes to mark the official opening of the new Aberystwyth University 400m running track.

The two lane track was installed over the summer and features the professional standard surface Mondotrack SX, which has been supplied by Mondo, official suppliers of the track surfaces for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Organised by the University Sports Centre, the 4-Minute Mile Challenge Trophy will be held between Monday 4th and Thursday 14th October, with the winners being presented at a special opening ceremony at 12.00 p.m. on the final day of competition.

The competition is open to teams of 4 (2 male and 2 female runners). Entry costs £5 with the proceeds going to charity. Teams wishing to take part will need to book a time slot to record their time in advance with the Sports Centre on 01970 622280.

Frank Rowe, Director of the University’s Sports Centre said:
“This new track represents an important addition to the Sports Centre’s excellent range of facilities. As with the all-weather sports pitch on the Penglais campus, the track is available to local running clubs and the wider Ceredigion community, as well as the University’s staff and students.”

Competition rules and information about the hire of the running track are available online at http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/sportscentre/facilities/outdoor-facilities/runningtrack/.
