‘In the eye of the storm: the European Commission's role and responsibilities’

Andy Klom, Head of the European Commission's Office for Wales since 2005, will speak about new roles and challenges for the European Commission in the crisis-ridden Europe at Aberystwyth University on Monday 17 October.

In a lecture entitled ‘In the eye of the storm: the European Commission's role and responsibilities’, Andy Klom will address the Centre for European Studies at Aberystwyth University.

He will discuss the role and responsibilities of the European Commission during the past 60 years of European integration, its position today, and the outlook for the future.

At a time when the integration process in Europe appears to be on the brink of tremendous changes, either moving dramatically forward or starting to slip into recession, the European Commission continues to hold a key position in the high level negotiations on the future of Europe.

Andy Klom is the European Commission's representative in Wales and has been the Head of its Office in Wales since 2005. He is a career civil servant of the European Commission and has worked for its various departments since 1993 in a variety of locations: Brussels, Brasilia, Buenos Aires, Texas and currently Wales.

The lecture will take place at 2.00 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Department of International Politics building.
