New nursery opens

13 April 2012

The University’s new purpose built day nursery on Penglais Hill opened its doors for the first time on Thursday 12 April.

Originally located in Glenview on Brynymor Road, Penglais Nursery will provide child care services for Aberystwyth University staff and students as well as the local community.

This state of the art facility, which currently employs 22 members of staff, will now be able to accommodate 73 children up to eight years of age.

Nursery Manager Eleri Morris said, “We are delighted to be here and look forward to making this wonderful building our new home. Because we have more rooms available to us and space, which includes an outdoor play area, we will be able to accommodate more children which is a positive step forward for us.”

The baby unit at Rosser Hall on Penglais Campus will also amalgamate with Penglais Nursery which is open on weekdays from 8am - 6pm. The Nursery has received glowing reports from Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales in the past for the quality of the staff and the learning environment it provides.

The University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for Student and Staff Services, Rebecca Davies said, "We very much welcome this new nursery which is a fantastic resource for working parents and their children. We are very proud to be able to offer such a wonderful and safe environment for children that aims to encourage learning through play.

This modern high quality service will be open to the community as well as our staff and students, and we look forward to welcoming new and existing parents and children to the site."

Penglais Nursery is registered with Mudiad Meithrin and the Wales Primary Play Association and offers 9 places for children under 12 months, 15 places for children aged 12 to 24 months, 20 places for children 2 years of age, 14 places for children 3 years of age, and 15 places for children aged 3 to 8 years of age as part of a holiday play scheme.
